Making a move that had been threaten for some time, McWhirter took the lead on the fifth lap. Behind him Hancock held on for a while, but McWhirter was obviously enjoying himself as he gradually pulled away. <br /><br />With less than six minutes Adrian Willmott’s Austin Healey 100S was seen to be catching up third placed Robert Newall, taking over as the latter pitted his Cooper-Jaguar with two laps remaining.
